The one about the car shows…

What does going to a car show mean to you? To me, it means bringing out the Crème de la Crème builds to the show. The builds that make you stop and stare at them to see all the intricate details. The rare and unobtainable parts that no one seems to have anymore. That is what going to a car show is all about for me.

This Mitusbishi EVO caught my eye instantly at the latest car show I just went to. Notice the parts selection on this car… Voltex, ARC, TE37, and Alcon… Keen eyes will notice how rare it is to see a Top Secret TE37… This is what I’m talking about when going to these car shows and expecting only the best in terms of bodywork, parts selection, and overall flow.

Unfortunately with the direction of car shows these days, we are seeing less and less of these types of builds. These days the cars being accepted into these shows are highly questionable. Poor bodywork, replica parts, half assed wraps, or it’s a stock car that shouldn’t have even been in the show in the first place. I’ve had a lot of friends send me photos of piss poor cars and as much as I wanted to post them, I’ll refrain for now.

On top of the piss poor selection of cars getting into car shows, one of the few gripes about the recent car show I went to with Subiefest is the lack of proper judging and horrible location.

First off, why would you host an outside meet in the middle of summer when it’s 100+ degrees out? It made for one of the worst meets I’ve ever been to. Pick a different time of the year to do this show. No one wants to suffer in the heat when there is literally no shade at all at this venue.

Secondly, the judging needs a major overhaul. This one is Subiefest specific but they need to get rid of the VOLUNTEER judging. It’s wild to me that volunteer judges are scoring cars in these shows. One message that was sent to me read this… “I had a judge reach out to me and say sorry the other judges are just not car people and go based off of what catches their eyes.” This is worst thing you can do for a car show. They have no idea how much money, time, and effort goes into these cars and to lose a 1st place award because some volunteer thought XYZ car caught their eye? That to me is unacceptable. Stop with the volunteer judges and hire some people who know what they are looking at.

Here are some more photos of awesome examples of what a car show quality should be like. Most of the cars in this show did an amazing job with bringing in the Crème de la Crème of builds. I stared at all these cars in awe to be honest. It made me want to build my STI to an even greater level of quality and flow. Although the quality of cars was the best, the show could do better in terms of generating more traffic. This show felt like it was completely empty throughout the day.

The way I see it, we’re all chefs in the kitchen. The parts selection, the flow, and the way it’s presented is what makes a build. Some of you guys throw the kitchen sink in mods and it shows while the rest of us cook with only the best parts. There’s a clear distinction between TikTok builds and high quality builds and I’ll leave it at that.
