After an 8 hour drive south down I-5, multiple pit stops for gas, food and stretching and a few years taken off your life because of Californian drivers; you finally made it. The sky is a shade of blue you can only find in California, the temperature is hot but won’t kill you, and the air is filled with the smell of burning tires, carnival-esq food, racing fuel and commentators. In the distance you hear unrestricted V8’s, V12, W16 and just about every configuration of engine there is. Where could you possibly be?

Welcome, to Velocity Invitational.
A fairly new event, 5th annual to be exact. Some call it a Rolex Reunion dumbed down, some call it an event where you see it all. No matter what you call it, this event is one for the books.
For a first day, it was a little hectic, mostly due to the TikTok “enthusiasts” running around copy/pasting every edit they’ve seen, so trying to get real good shots was a little difficult to say the least.

All of the races held on the first day were qualifying for Saturday and Sunday, but amazing to watch nonetheless. We were able to see cars that we’ve only ever dreamed of seeing in person, let alone getting driven full pace by famous drivers, past or present.
From Ferrari to Porsche, Mercedes to BMW, and even Subaru, the cars on track were something you could only comprehend if you were there that weekend.
Stay tuned for the next post, where we’ll go over Day 2, which in my opinion, was the best day of the whole event. We’ll be diving deep into the Hill Climb and Time Attack events, along with some notable vehicles that we had spotted on paddock.
