Flashing lights

With the recent photoshoot I just did, I had noticed my headlights were flickering, again. This has been a persistent issue I’ve had ever since I made the move over to JDM headlights and I need to get this fixed because it bothers me way too much.

For those that don’t know, the JDM headlights did not come with the amber corners like the USDM headlights did. The move over to JDM headlights though will require opening up the headlights and modifying the beam pattern to not blind other drivers in front of you to do it correctly here in the USA.

Going back to flickering… I had thought I fixed it originally awhile back because I took the modified JDM headlights out and noticed that the wires were completely pinched from the cover case. I took apart my old USDM headlights and swapped over the components and for a while the issue went away until recently.

So I’m not really sure what the exact cause is of the flickering. It has to be a wiring issues cause the lights work like 98% of the time. One potential cause is that it might be somehow my Ganador mirrors? I believe the previous shop tapped into the headlight harness because I have the integrated LED turn signals in my mirrors! The other potential cause is that these lights have been modified and the ballast/lights are just old?

Either way, I’m done playing around with these modified lights. This is something that I’ve been wanting to do ever since I bought this car and it is to source a brand new set of headlights… Something about having a set of fresh headlights on a 15+ year old car is a vibe and I’m all for it.

There’s the cheap way to have a “new” looking headlight and that is to buy a replacement headlight from Rock Auto and swap the lens over to have a “mint set” or the expensive way and that is to find an OEM set like I did…

But these aren’t just any set of headlights… They’re sourced all the way from Germany and they are a set of European headlights! These ones don’t have the nasty orange reflectors like the USDM headlights do AND they are aligned correctly for LHD beam pattern! So no modifications needed to adjust the lights and its factory sealed! Next step is to get these to PPF to keep these lights looking good for as long as possible and then maybe one day get them installed whenever paint happens…!

Part numbers for European headlights: 84002FE092 and 84002FE082
