What did I get myself into…

I’ll jump straight into the latest can of worms I just opened a few days ago. I’ve decided that I’ll be embarking on the biggest project to date with the STI and that is having the car torn apart in two stages, one for a full respray and the other with the engine… More on that in another post.

Things are moving and I’ve laid the framework for the next few years with this project and I’m excited to bring you guys along. I’ve gone back and forth on showing the community the final product vs doing a “build thread” here on the blog and social media. Decided that the entire point of this blog is to document everything and I’ll be bringing you guys along for the ride. There will be some HUGE secrets I’ll keep till the end but it’ll be a fun journey and I hope you guys enjoy it!

I’ll give you a sneak peek… the content that is inside this box has determined the fate of the STI and I can’t wait to show you guys in a few years. The part I recently acquired is all about the law of attraction, a bit of luck, a lot of money, and chasing the dream. All of this will make sense when the project is complete in a couple of years!

Below is the list of most of the exterior trim and rubber pieces that I will be replacing when the time comes for the paint job. The list was provided by my good friend Cody (@KCGMOTORSPORTS) and I’ve slightly modified it for my STI needs. The list will be updated to add more part numbers as I slowly buy the pieces I need in the next few years.

I’ve already started the journey of buying trim and this was the first part to come in. I could’ve easily sprayed these black and went along with my life but who am I kidding…

The only issue is these parts are shipped very poorly from Subaru. The box came shipped with just the trim and no protective bubblewrap or paper. Guess what happened… Yes, it got kinked right where the box was damaged.

My issue now is chasing all the trim and rubber pieces while they are available or chasing the rare aftermarket goodies! I know eventually the trim pieces will be pretty hard to find brand new and the inventory is only getting smaller and smaller as each day goes by… and if I chase the rare aftermarket goodies, well, we know that those parts don’t come up on the market very often.
