On today’s episode of CLOSE UP, the OEM PLUS COLLECTIVE presents a special part, the Subaru Impreza WRX STi Spec C Manual Crank Windows!!!
This was definitely not on the list of want to buy items but when I saw this come up, I had to have it and document it for the Subaru community.
A little history on the Spec C is that it is essentially the stripper version of the standard STi which meant less parts and more weight savings.
The Spec C went on a extreme diet and shed all the unnecessary weight and one are where they got the weight reduction was in the windows and panels. They used a thinner material glass than the regular STi and they also used these manual crank windows in lieu of having the added weight from the motors and wiring for electric windows!
In the beginning of the Spec C, all 4 doors had manual crank windows but in later years of the Spec C, the front 2 doors were changed to electric while the rear 2 doors stayed manual crank.
In all my years of chasing rare parts, I’ve never seen a set go up for sale anywhere on the market. I’ve only read about them on forums but to actually see the part in person, it’s quite cool to see the ultimate chase for weight reduction from an OEM!
